With the Paris climate talks just days away with the aim of reaching a radical deal between countries to curb their greenhouse gas emissions, investors’ role in making this a reality is in the spotlight.

After many years when environmental issues were seen as a concern mainly for niche ethical or socially responsible investors, the topic has moved firmly to the centre stage in the last 12-18 months, says Frederic Samama, deputy head of institutional investing at the asset manager Amundi.

“We have seen a fascinating shift among asset owners. They are now entering the climate change game,” he says.
